All Rise!

Last week I had the enormous of thrill of performing the soprano solo in Wynton Marsalis’ 1999 composition, “All Rise”, a piece designed to unite people of all colour and religions.

A particular thrill for me, as I have been a fan of Mr Marsalis since his Barock Duets album with Kathleen Battle. My friend Julian Simpson (trumpeter) played the cd to me and we performed a few of the numbers together ourselves in University. Our favourite was Eternal Source of Light Divine! Still gives me goosebumps!

I will never forget the lessons I have learned hearing Mr Marsalis play each day and the incredible Jazz at the Lincoln Centre Orchestra. One more week of heaven til I have to head home! Two more performances at the Sydney Opera House this Thursday and Friday night.
